5 things that fast tracked my business growth
No one said starting a business was easy, but if there’s any big sisTER advice I can give you, here it is!
YOU HAVE TO SPEND MONEY TO MAKE MONEY
I want to start by prefacing this: I wholeheartedly believe this is why our business grew so rapidly!
Here’s how:
We invested in gear and grew our prop collection, ensuring our work was always elevated and looked different from fellow creators. This enabled us to give our clients engaging content that stood out.
We outsourced tasks that would chew up our time and handed it over to someone else who was much better at it. This included bookkeeping, HR, accounting, retouching, marketing etc. When you stop doing everything, you can do more of what you’re good at, which, in return, will attract more business in the long run.
We moved into a commercial space, attracting not only studio hire clients (which translates to more revenue) but bigger brands/ projects for our creative services.
MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR CREATIVE SYSTEMS
We started scheduling all our social media content, created email templates, created project timelines (and stuck to them), created a booking system for our clients, created an inquiry form and so on.
WHAT WE USE:
DUBSADO (FOR CRM)
MILANOTE (FOR BRIEFS AND PLANNING)
PLANN (FOR SOCIAL MEDIA)
MONDAY.COM (FOR TASK MANAGEMENT AND PLANNING).
A combination of these systems can help fast-track your tasks and help you learn to cut corners, of course, without compromising the quality of your work or professionalism. And remember, it’s all about consistency!
MAKE TIME FOR PASSION PROJECTS
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, some of my biggest clients have come from passion projects.
By prioritising passion projects, you can improve your skills, avoid burnout, and showcase your best work, ultimately attracting the right clients and building trust and engagement.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO INCREASE YOUR RATES
I literally just started charging more as our skills grew!
Charging more as your skills grow to reflect your expertise and experience is important. Charging more also helps you to cover your costs, including gear, studio hire, time, etc. However, ensure you do not overprice; this will drive away clients! Smart pricing, based on factors such as experience, expertise, and quality of work, can help you establish a fair but profitable pricing structure!
GROW YOUR TEAM
This one is scary because you become responsible for someone else’s life, but we saw our business grow so much when we accepted that we couldn’t do it all and needed help! If you do it yourself, you may win the sprint, but if you do it with others, you’ll win the marathon.
Growing your team in product photography can lead to faster business growth for several reasons. Firstly, professional product photography can enhance the appeal of your business, increasing sales and attracting new customers.
Having other people in your little team can help you create more varied and engaging product photos, crucial for reinforcing your brand image and guiding customers through the conversion process!
