Working with talent
Working With Talent Can Be
Models can elevate photography to a whole new level by bringing a human element to the product and bringing it to life. Seeing someone else using the product can also help clients & customers visualise themselves using it.
However, working with models isn’t always a walk in the park; they’re living, breathing, wonderful people, not just blocks or props that can remain still for hours. With multiple models in a scene, it can take a few attempts to get everyone looking their best; this isn’t anyone’s fault – it’s just human nature for you!
Here are a few tips to make your model photography experience smoother and more successful:
Engage in Conversation
Before the shoot, chat with the model about what they like, what makes them feel comfy, and what you need from them. This sets the tone for a fun and relaxed day.
Plan the shoot
Jot down your ideas for poses, angles, and lighting. This will keep the shoot moving smoothly and ensure you don’t miss the shot you dream of!
Be ready to pivot
Sometimes, plans change. Be open to new ideas from the team and models, and have fun trying something different.
Light it up
Lighting can make or break a shot. Take a moment to study the light setup and make sure the model is in the perfect spot.
Get groovy
Mix it up with different poses, expressions, and perspectives. This will make the model feel confident and give you a variety of shots to choose from.
Give guidance
Give the model feedback as you go. This will help them improve and shine in front of the camera. Showing them the shots you have already taken is also a great way for them to see how things are looking.
Take care of them
It’s harder than it looks! Have a comfy chair to offer them while they aren’t needed, and ensure they can have something to eat and drink on those long shoots.
Most importantly, have fun!
Creating a positive atmosphere will shine through on the camera.
